Good adverts, good candidates

At Jobsite, we are often being asked what the best way of attracting the right candidate is and my response is always the same - write good adverts. We know this is important just by looking at the stats for applications being received by recruiters - good adverts, good candidates, it is as easy as that. That is not to say that you need to write like Shakespeare, you just need to make sure that the vacancy in question is explained in enough detail and with the right keywords to be attractive to the candidate.
To help in this, it might be useful explaining what actually happens when a vacancy is placed onto Jobsite. Firstly, once the advert has been received, it will go live into the searchable database where millions of proactive Jobseekers will be searching. Unlike in newsprint though, your advert actually needs to be searched for and found, which will mean a user typing in keywords and a location, and the words they will use MUST be in your advert copy otherwise it will never be seen. The next thing that happens is that your advert will (either at lunchtime or that evening) be matched against all the reactive jobseekers who have provided us with their specific keywords and location. We currently have around 2.4 million people in our "Jobs-by-email" database who (if your advert is relevant to the type of jobs they've asked us to send them) will receive your advert in their email box with a list of other matching vacancies.
So, by writing an ad which includes all the relevant skills you've got your job in the search results (or in the Jobs-by-email) in front of the eyes of candidates who are looking for jobs like yours. You're now competing against other jobs that are also suitable for your potential candidate and this is where your advert copy needs to give you some serious help. The advert should explain any detail about the job that will be of interest to a candidate including the position, who the candidate will be reporting into, the location, the salary, the benefits, the work environment, what type of person it might suit and any other beneficial parts to the role.
Well written, accurate advert copy will give you the best chance of being seen by the candidates you want to apply, and by providing them with all the information they need & clearly explaining the benefits of joining your company you're improving your chances of getting applications from the best candidates. All in all, great ads make the recruitment process easier & more effective for everyone.
