Returning to work - Gaps in your CV
Interview question - June 24, 2008
I have spent quite a long time at home looking after my children, now I want to get back into work and find myself stuck when it comes to listing referees (doubt they'd remember me) and trying to turn my experiences into something an employer would see.

Hi Kat
I work in the employment industry and put together CV's for several different clients on a weekly basis. Don't think that having time off work to raise your children is at all a bad thing!
It takes a great deal of "transferable skills" to raise children such as organising and leadership qualities, time/deadline management, prioritising workloads and schedules, these are all things you should be mentioning on your CV.
If you're struggling to find some good references it may be considering doing some voluntary work, this also a good thing to have on your CV to break up those employment gaps as they show you're active and motivated to work.
