Returning to employment after running your own business
Interview question - February 6, 2008
I have been running my own business for the past 3 years but am now planning to go back into employment. I am struggling with a good answer to give prospective employers when they ask why I want to go back to being an employee having been my own boss for 3 years. Can you help?

You can say that you have been out and ran your own business but feel that you now need someones help in you finding your feet again and showing you the ways through business.
What did you enjoy previously about being in employment compared to running your own company? as that is what it will come down to.

The best piece of advice I'd suggest is simply to be honest and be positive. The interviewer will be looking to see that you have direction, can explain what you enjoyed and learned from running your own business, and what you're looking to get out of returning to employment.
You have valuable skills and experience from running your own business, so it might be worth visiting the 'selling yourself' section of the site for more guidance.
