Sweet Mutterings

The Wanderer Returns (Part 2)

As a wise woman (Lyndsay) once commented in my first ever blog:

'Work, schmirk, there's more to you than that'

And indeed she is right and so here, as promised, is a little bit of what I've been getting up to when out of Jobsite HQ:

* Went to a birthday party for my friend Nancy. It was held at Katarins in Southsea and was a lovely evening. However, the staff were a little over zealous and yelled at me for using the little boys room! I'm sure girls will agree that if you have to go, you have to go & if there's a queue for yours then you have to use your initiative. Honestly having one lady's loo in a bar should be made illegal & it didn't have a mirror but the lad's loo did, weird! I also wore new shoes which hurt but they looked pretty.

* Went to a spa for the day with my Mum. It was a delayed Mother's day present as she'd been ill at the time. Discovered that being pampered when you're normally at work is grand!

* I watched my friend Della and her housemate Emma run the Race For Life for Cancer Research UK in Richmond Park. Both did great times & more importantly raised money for charidee - well done ladies.

* I went to Gran Canaria for a week with my friend Michelle. Lots of love must go Apartment Lara, El Brisserio restaurant & the inhabitants of the next door apartment: Shaun (Batman), James & Dave. I'll never be able to listen to Shakira in the same way again!!

Lastly three events where work becomes social:

* We all went to Goodwood races on the 16th June where the champagne was free and plentiful - just the way I like it!

* Had a Marketing team meal at Loch Fyne in Gunwharf using our incentive points that we're awarded at work.

* Attended Jackie Stewart's hen party which was fab. She's the Sales Manager here at Jobsite & is currently off getting married in Thailand. Congratulations Jackie.

If this makes you think that you'd like to work here then check out Joe's 'I Only Want To Work In London' blog, or check out current Jobsite vacancies.

I'm going to leave for now as my 'to-do' list beckons but I promise I will return soon to tell you about my weekend in Newquay & update you on my house purchase.

Take care.

Hi Cheyrl

Sounds like you had quite a busy time.
What sort of person do you think would fit in at Jobsite then?

a pretty special one I would say...

Joe Mc - August 9, 2006 05:42 PM

As Joe says, a pretty special one. We're a bit of a mixed bag here, as you can probably tell from those of us they have let loose to write a blog!

In Jobsite Personal Profile terms we're mainly Balancers & Contenders with a few Believers thrown in for good measure. Within one office (albeit split by a wall) we've got the sales teams, marketing department, finance, development, design, directors etc and although it sounds a bit like the 'Sound of Music' everyone gets on really well. All departments work pretty closely together at different points so that's a good thing. The only thing I can see ruining the harmonious dynamic is the damn departmental badminton league! Honestly it's getting a bit hostile with certain peope, expect shuttle cocks at dawn any day now!

So to go back to your question Ann, anyone who isn't afraid of hard work and is looking for a job with exceptional colleagues (heck, I'm allowed to be bias!) should probably check out our vacancies.

The true identity of the bat is supposed to be kept secret!! I was expecting a full on essay of the trials and tribulations of Gran Canaria. El Brassero and my Shakira dancing deserves more than a passing mention. I'm contemplating releasing a book entitled The bat of Gran Canaria!

Shaun Deakin - August 11, 2006 07:38 AM

Sorry to have blown your cover Shaun. I'm not sure this blog is ready for the whole Gran Canaria story! I'd be first in the queue to buy your book though. Better yet why don't you write your own blog, 'Bat tales from Gran Canaria', that way the story could unfold over time!

I didn't feel that I could say too much about your Shakira dancing incase it made other, more rythmically challenged people, jealous! You really can shake your hips like no-one I've ever known!!

I hope the metal box making is working out well for you!

Hi Cheryl,

My name is James Malone and I am writing from California, hoping you might be able to help me with some advice regarding PR salaries in Dublin and Ireland?

I have companies interested from Dublin and they are asking what kind of salary I would need to be comfortable, and I honestly have no idea what the current range in Dublin happens to be and was hoping you might be able to help me.

I enjoyed your blog and was hoping you might be able to help me with some advice and some current salary ranges for junior, mid and senior level PR executives in Dublin Ireland.

Thanks so much and hope you are having a great weekend in the UK!

No post since August...what have you been up to?!

Steve - October 2, 2006 12:34 PM

Sorry Steve. Once again I am a blogging failure. Bear with me & a new post will pop up pretty soon (hopefully!)

It does feel nice to have someone concerned about my lack of posting.

In short, a lot has been happening, hence the lack of communication. I'll make sure I fill everyone in on my next blog though.

Watch this space.

Take care.

Hi James,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Things have been really hectic here.

Congratulations on the job offers. I hear that Ireland is a great place to live & work. I'm hoping to visit there pretty soon as I've never actually been which is weird as I'm not that far from it.

I'm afraid I don't know too much about the salary levels in Ireland but if I provide some information about salaries in London it may help.

For a Junior Account Executive you'd be looking at between £16-19k, for an Account Executive it would be around £18-24k and for a Senior Account Executive the salary is between £23-28k. From here you would progress to Account Manager & then Account Director level. I don't want to get myself in to trouble with the new Age Discrimination laws but Junior Account Executives are beginners to PR, who may have a little experience or maybe a qualification in it, and Account Directors usually have 8+ years experience.

These figures shouldn't be take as gospel as they vary greatly depending on what sector you're looking to work in (Tech/Public Affairs/Financial usually pay better than consumer), whether you're in-house or agency (the names of the roles may also change in-house) and where the company is based (these figures allow for London weighting which means they can be £3-4k more than elsewhere).

The exchange rate for £1 into Euros currently stands at around 1.48 so this should help you work out whether what they are offering is fair.

I would do some research into the cost of living in Dublin as I hear that it's quite expensive. You'd probably need wages similar to London to be able to live comfortably.

Best of luck with it James. Please keep in touch and let me know how you're getting on. Hopefully the above may help you a little. I would also suggest that if you're not already you subscribe to PR Week as then you will be able to sign in on their site and compare salaries.

In the meantime enjoy yoursef in sunny California. I went there a couple of years back and had a fab time.
