Ex-employer Wants Refund

I left a job in October 2007, I gave a months notice but they asked me to leave at the end of the week on full pay. I started another job a month later, I recieved my final pay and P45 with almost all the money deducted from it for holidays taken, fair enough. But almost 4 months later I recieved a letter telling me that due to my contract I owed them £1500 for training.

I wrote back to them saying that I thought my final pay was in final settlement for anything outstanding. Now they have taken out a court judgment against me for the money. Can en ex employer just decide when they feel like it to send you a bill. It was 4 months after leaving their employment.

Ian.
