Missus the Point - advice from Karren Brady

I have been in my present company for 28 years. However my role is too narrow and future prospects are low, I would like to leave to go to another employer to further my career, but my wife is not keen on the idea in case the new job does not turn out to be what I expected, and there is no going back to my old employer, what should I do?

You have to remember in life that to change and to change for the better are two very different things.
First of all look at ways in which you can improve your current position - that would be the best scenario.
See if your employer would give you any courses that might enhance your role. If you've been in a position a long time you do get stale and you need to reignite your enthusiasm.
If you do look at other jobs, see how you would fit in. If you are offered a job at another company I'd do a presentation so you can make clear what you can offer and so to reduce the risks of your leaving.
Alternatively send your wife out to work and tell her to stop moaning!
