Loyalty or Progress? - advice from Karren Brady

Brad has risen through the ranks and has been with the company for 12 years. He has been groomed to be next in line for the president's job. The company is in the 21st century and technologically Brad's skills are old school. Chantal has been with the company a couple of years straight from grad school. She is technology savvy and has a vision for the future. I am sure that Brad can do the job, but Chantal can move the company forward. My dilemma is should I hire Brad (out of loyalty) or Chantal as the next president?

You have to hire the best person for the job. Think of the careers of all the other people who work in the company. If the company can't succeed and look to the future it can't exist.
When you're in the position of running a company that takes integrity and leadership skills. The leader always has to make the hard decisions. It is your responsibility to show you are a leader by choosing the right person.
