Homing from Work - advice from Karren Brady

Very often I get into work early to do some admin chores such as pay my bills, write correspondence or send personal emails. If I'm at my desk an hour before I'm contractually supposed to start - if my boss asks me to do some work - is it okay to say that I'm busy but will do it when I'm supposed to start? Or does he have cause to complain?

The office is not there for your personal use and in the office you should be working. You will be using the company computers, phone, equipment and resources and they are not there for your own personal convenience. When in the office you are at the beck and call of your boss. I suggest you do any personal chores at home before you leave for work and then head to the office on time.
