Commitments holding me back - advice from Karren Brady
I hate my job; it's too easy and not motivating. I have no promotion opportunities because of my boss. I have a mortgage to pay, that's why I am stuck. I'm studying Business Communication and am doing an MA in Public Relations but I have been working at the library as part of the student service team for 4 years and earn 21k just to pay the bills. I want to work in PR but don't have the experience and I can't be earning less because of my commitments (family, loan & bills) what should I do? Please help as I dread coming to work at this place every single day.
How depressing. You must remember you spend most of your waking hours at work and to have a job you don't enjoy is a criminal offence against yourself. A job will work well - unless you'd rather be doing something else. So sometimes you have to take a step back to take a step forward but you should understand this is an investment in your self and in your sanity.
I would say plan your future. Look for the job opportunity that you want and you'll have to take some pain otherwise you'll never do it and you'll always be unhappy.
What's more important to you - being happy or paying your mortgage?
Sometimes you can't have both in life.
Reduce your commitments and sell your house. In two years time you could have the most wonderful career and be wonderfully happy. These are hard decisions to make but you've got to think of your long term welfare.
